Communication is undoubtedly one of the most essential core competencies that individuals must possess in both their personal and professional lives. Effective communication skills are vital to the success of any individual, team, or organization.
At its core, communication involves the exchange of information, ideas, and thoughts between two or more people. This can take many forms, including verbal communication, nonverbal communication, written communication, and even visual communication.
The following demonstrates my understanding of same.
Technology and Public Administration: Communication Through the Assistance of Technological Advance
This paper discusses the role of technology in enhancing communication between the government and the public. It emphasizes the importance of civic engagement and public participation in promoting transparency and accountability in government.
Effective communication is a core competency of public administration, and this paper highlights how the use of technology can facilitate this communication. It discusses the importance of clear and realistic goals, effective management, and appropriate data structures in ensuring the success of IT projects in the public sector. It also highlights the role of politicians in shaping how public organizations interact with citizens through the use of ICT.
Moreover, the paper emphasizes the need for citizen-centric e-government, which can help measure citizen satisfaction through surveys and feedback. Effective communication is essential for citizen-centric e-government as it enables citizens to interact with government agencies, offer feedback, and voice their concerns.
In summary, this paper highlights the critical role of technology in enhancing communication between the government and the public and emphasizes the importance of effective communication as a core competency of public administration.
Interview Data Collection : Leadership (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion)
This project is an interview I conducted with a leader regarding Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Conducting this interview strengthened my understanding of:
Communication and Clarity: Using clear and concise language to convey my ideas. Additionally, avoiding the use of jargon or technical terms that may confuse the interviewee.
Active listening: Demonstrate active listening by paying attention to the interviewee's responses and asking questions appropriately. Paraphrasing the responses or asking for clarification can also show that I am actively engaged in the conversation.
Nonverbal communication: Pay attention to my nonverbal cues, such as eye contact, posture, and facial expressions. Maintain good eye contact and use appropriate gestures to emphasize my points.
Adaptability: Be flexible in your communication style, and adjust it to fit the interviewer's personality and communication style. This shows that you are able to adapt to different situations and work effectively with different people.
Empathy: Show empathy and understanding toward the interviewee's perspective. This can be demonstrated by actively listening, acknowledging their concerns, and providing thoughtful responses.
